DJ Leoni is one of the luminaries of the Greek house music scene. A man of multiple talents,
he is not only skilled behind the decks, but also
an accomplished musician and producer, as well as a successful club promoter and record
company boss. He's also a radio producer, for
the City International radio station in Thessaloniki.
Leoni was born to make music. His father was a member of the legendary greek band the Olympians, and at the age of seven he started studying piano and music theory at the Macedonian Music School. As a teenager, Leoni was in a succession of successful rock bands,
but on discovering house music he decided to become a DJ.
Instant recognition of his DJ skills led to Leoni being offered DJ slots at some of Greece's top clubs, and between 1991 and 1993 he was a resident at club Cocos and Splendid in Thessaloniki.
Leoni then turned his hand to promoting and soon found himself promoting and DJing at
some of the best clubs in Greece, including
parties with DMC Hellas.
In 1996, Leoni created the trance act Astranalysis, which went on to do live shows at clubs and parties all over Greece and appeared on many CD compilations.
In 1998 Leoni began to spread his DJ skills beyond Greece when he appeared at Unity Of
The Underground (one of Germany's largest
club events) in Dresden and Berlin. He has since gone on to play at many other clubs in
Germany, as well as DJing in London (Turnmills) and Ibiza (Itaca). He also currently has a monthly residency at Fusion Dance Floor in Crete.
Leoni's own monthly Blackmailmgnt night, Club Decadence, in Thesaloniki, often has top international guest DJs, including Anton Fielding (Echomen), Louis Paris (Plastic Fantastic) and the Flash Brothers playing alongside him.
As an increasingly respected house music producer, Leoni is currently recording tracks for his own label, UL (Underground Lessons) Recordings. He also records for other labels, including Erase Records and Loopsnoo Records.
As well as producing under his own name, DJ Leoni produces under such act names as Oxi+de, Oxid8, M8 and the aforementioned Astranalysis.
